[edit] History of coconut oil
[edit] Benefits
Coconut oil has been used as a home remedy in tropical areas of the world for dry skin, acne, and overall skin health. It is a cheap and effective way to moisturize and protect your skin. The lauric fatty acids in coconut oil make it an excellent anti-bacterial moisturizer. This can help prevent acne breakouts and scarring. Lauric acid is a good fatty acid found in mother’s milk.
When choosing coconut oil to use on your skin be sure to use virgin Coconut oil. Products such as coconut oil soap do not have the same benefits. Also avoid refined or bleached coconut oil. You may enjoy the natural aroma and feeling of coconut oil more than the best body lotion.
Coconut oil is an excellent emollient, that is it attracts water out of the air and absorbs it into the skin.
Here are some key benefits to using coconut oil:
- Contains vitamin E to help protect your skin.
- Helps support your immune system.
- Helps against eczema and dermatitis.
- Safe to use on sensitive skin.
- Can also be used on dry, chapped lips.
- Also helps in healing cuts, pimples, fungus, burns and other irritations.
[edit] Recommended application of coconut oil on the skin
Before going to bed take a shower or wash the face. Leave the skin a little damp. Gently rub small amount of coconut oil into the skin focusing on any particularly dry or rough spot. Be sure to rub it in deep so that it is absorbed into the skin. Leave a very light layer of coconut oil on during sleep. After a few days the skin should feel softer, smoother and healthier.
