Have you ever wondered about the difference between a handmade soap and a commercial soap? I have, and after some experiments and research on this area, here’s what I found:

Commercial soaps definitely come with a lot of glamor attached to them. They are aesthetically shaped with attractive colors and tingling fragrances. They are carefully packed in beautiful bottles or cartons, and promise you a soft and glowing skin. However, I almost always found the results to be the exact opposite.

It got me thinking, why does this happen? Why does my skin feel tight and dry after using a commercial soap?

I found out that there are more than one answers to this question. For one, this could be the result of various chemicals that are used in making commercial soaps. These chemicals rip off the essential oils that keep your skin smooth and healthy. Commercial Soaps also contain animal fat and other chemicals that can leave your skin irritated. These soaps contain alkali mostly in the form of sodium, which causes the drying effect.

In fact, many soap manufacturing companies remove the natural glycerine from the soap that helps moisturize your skin. They use this natural glycerine to produce other cosmetic products. The natural Glycerine in soap is replaced with other synthetic fillers and detergents.

Most importantly, don’t ever get fooled by the fragrances they add to the soap. The perfumes used in soaps have also proven to be harmful on sensitive skin.

This brings us to the next question: if commercial soaps suck so bad, how are natural handmade soaps any different?

For one, unlike commercial soaps, handmade soaps are made using natural oils such as almond oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil to give your skin the required nourishment. In order to add fragrance in these soaps, essential oils are used instead of chemicals or perfumes as a result of which they end up smelling great and are 100% skin-friendly. The ingredients for each soap are blended together in such a way that it preserves the nutrients present in all the oils, plants, and flowers used to prepare it.

To summarize, handmade soaps have absolutely no chemicals, no fillers, and nothing unnatural that could harm your skin.

Handmade soaps really can give you the skin you always wanted — clean, soft, and smooth.

You may also want to try to make your own hypoallergenic soap.
